It was very exciting to see Edi Gathegi, my former NYU Grad Acting student as one of the stars of the new “Superman 2025″ movie. Annie Piper was also one of his teachers in Grad Acting and she was as thrilled as I was to see him in this film based on the characters from DC Comics.
He plays a character called Mr. Terrific and he was terrific! In an overview on line Mr. Terrific is described as “a hero in the DC Comics universe. He is known for his exceptional intelligence, Olympic-level athleticism and use of advanced technology, specifically his T-Spheres. He has been a member of various superhero teams, including the Justice League and the Justice Society.”
In this new version of the classic story, David Corenswet is Superman, Rachel Broshahan is Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult is Lex Luthor and Nathon Fillion is Green Lantern. The film is directed by James Gunn who is the co-CEO of DC Studios. Superman is the first film in the DCU’s “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters”. Gunn has said that a television series with Mr. Terrific as the star is a possibility.

Edi Gathegi has played in numerous films and in television series including “Gone Baby Gone”, “House”, “Twilight” and its sequel “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”, “X-Men: First Class”, “The Blacklist”, “Into the Badlands”, “The Harder They Fall” (Tribute Award for Best Ensemble cast), “Startup”, “Briarpatch”, “Princess of the Row” (breakout Acting Award from Method Fest Independent Film Festival), and “For All Mankind”.
In addition to film and television roles, Gathegi has performed in the theater at The Old Globe in “Two Trains Running”, The Geffen Playhouse in “Superior Donuts” (Los Angeles Critics Circle Award Best Lead Actor), and at the Signature Theatre Company in Jesus Hopped the A Train” (Drama Desk Award and Obie Award).
